location
When picking a location, you need to know what vibe you are looking for. Do you want to hike it up for an adventure and go on the trail to the park, splash around in the water be by the river or lake with a little sandy shore by it or go into the fields? Wherever you want to head, I am up for the adventure. Please note thought that there is a 70 cent fee per every mile outside of 20 mile distance (for more information about that please see pricing in the Travel Fee in the pricing section.
What to wear
Match the vibe and correspond with your other people!! (You can view the photos in portfolio to see how to correspond with your family!) If you are doing fall photos, you will want to look fall themed and not in summer themed clothes! More tips below!

Tips

Think about location
When choosing your outfit think about the location! You don't want to wear heels let alone stiletto heels if we are hiking the trail or going to a park! There will be lots of moving no matter where we go! If your only pair of shoes are not great for walking lots, PLEASE bring a pair of sneakers or easy walking shoes to go from each photo spot!
Dress Comfortably
No time for new style! If dresses are not your thing and you hardly ever wear one, don’t feel pressured to wear one. You want your photos to look like you! Feeling comfortable but confident is key!
Colors
Solid colors tend to photograph better than bold or busy prints. Large, loud patterns can be distracting and draw attention away from the main focus of the photo...your family! If the men want to wear flannels, that’s totally fine—just have the women and children coordinate by pulling a color from the flannel into their outfits. Avoid matching too closely with each other, especially in the same top—it’s better to coordinate rather than duplicate. Start with a neutral or natural color as your base and build the rest of the outfits around it for a cohesive look that keeps the focus on your family, not the clothes.
Dressing tips
Don't wear tight fit clothes that might highlight areas you don't want to be! Dress for the weather don't wear a tank and shorts for fall weather when it is 50 and a bit chilly!
Dressing Kiddos
Avoid Character theme clothing, they might want to wear their favorite TV show shirt but stay away from logos, designs, images, and graphics! Matching socks, I can not stress this enough for he amount of kids that love to throw on socks and they do not match... huge distraction! Being able to move around for the kiddos is a must!
If you are still stuck
If you are still struggling to get some outfits planned out, head to Pinterest look up your session and see what you find and send to me!
When in doubt and you are still stuck don't hesitate to reach out to me, I want you prepared!
reschedule
Iowa weather can be unpredictable, so flexibility is key! If your session is scheduled outdoors and the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll work together to reschedule, or move the shoot indoors if travel conditions are safe. If your session was planned indoors and travel becomes unsafe, we’ll also arrange a new date.
If you need to reschedule due to illness in your family, that’s completely okay. I’ll do my best to find a new time that works so we can still make your photos happen.
As always, please stay in touch with me through text or email. If it’s urgent, a text or phone call is the quickest way to reach me.
One on One meeting
If you’ve booked a wedding with me, a pre-wedding meeting isn’t required, but it is highly helpful! The earlier we schedule it, the better, it allows us to make sure dates, timelines, and every detail are perfectly aligned. If we need a second meeting closer to your wedding day, that’s no problem. My goal is to make sure your special day is captured beautifully and stress-free.
This meeting can take place in person, over Zoom, or by phone. During our time together, we’ll go over all the important details and answer any questions you may have.
If you’ve booked a regular session (senior, family, sports, etc.), a pre-session meeting isn’t necessary, but it’s definitely an option! If you’d like to have one, it will typically happen 7–10 days before your session.
